Martin Ødegaard scored in the 72nd minute as Arsenal beat Hull City 1–0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, 7 November. The captain settled a demanding afternoon for the Premier League leaders after Hull had repeatedly resisted their attacks.

The result took Arsenal to 27 points from ten matches. It was their sixth league victory by a single goal this season, adding another narrow success to their title defence.

Hull created an early warning when John Egan headed a corner into the side-netting. They later threatened through Elliot Stroud, whose effort required a diving save from David Raya as the visitors sought to punish Arsenal on the break.

Arsenal also struggled to make their opportunities count. Kai Havertz failed to convert a one-on-one chance and Christos Tzolis wasted openings, while Declan Rice headed a Noni Madueke cross straight at Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis before the interval.

A first-half penalty review brought further frustration for the hosts. Nobel Mendy was judged to have pulled Havertz’s shirt, but the forward was ruled offside in the build-up and Hull were awarded a free-kick.

The breakthrough eventually came when Tzolakis saved another shot from Madueke and Ødegaard was quickest to the loose ball, finishing from close range. It was the Norwegian’s fifth goal of the season and his first since September.

Madueke almost added a second late on after getting past Tzolakis, but Brooke Norton-Cuffy cleared from near the goal-line. Arsenal finished with their seventh clean sheet in ten league matches, with Gabriel Magalhães and Ezri Konsa helping protect the slender advantage.
