India took a 2–0 lead in their one-day international series against New Zealand with a four-run victory under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method in Wellington on Saturday, 7 November. Rain ended the second ODI with the visitors 113 for seven after 26 overs.

New Zealand had been bowled out for 134 in 41 overs, leaving India a target of 135. Although India were still 22 runs short when play stopped, they were four runs ahead of the DLS par score of 109.

Shreyas Iyer made 30 and KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 26 to help India recover from 47 for four. Their fifth-wicket partnership of 39 provided some stability before further wickets left the result dependent on the weather and the DLS calculation.

Gurnoor Brar was named player of the match after taking four for 30 from his 10 overs. Auqib Nabi, Anshul Kamboj and Axar Patel collected two wickets apiece as India dismissed the hosts without allowing them to use their full allocation.

Daryl Mitchell led New Zealand’s resistance with 55, while captain Mitchell Santner made 31. Their sixth-wicket partnership added 59, but the innings lost momentum again when Mitchell fell to Patel and Santner was caught behind off Brar.

Brar removed Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips in the same over to leave New Zealand 53 for five, deepening the damage after India’s new-ball bowlers had reduced the hosts to 23 for three.

A wet outfield delayed the start and cut the match to 47 overs per side. Hamilton hosts the third ODI on Tuesday, 10 November, with India 2–0 up in the five-match series.
