Matheus Cunha scored twice late on as Manchester United recovered from two goals down to beat Roma 3–2 in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Paris Saint-Germain set a scoring record in a 6–0 win at Villarreal.

United’s victory at Old Trafford ended a run of nine matches without a win. Michael Carrick’s side trailed at half-time after Matías Soulé opened the scoring in the 11th minute and Donyell Malen converted a penalty.

The comeback followed protests against the Glazer family’s ownership. Supporters released green and gold balloons before kick-off and threw tennis balls onto the pitch during the first half, before United’s goals changed the mood inside the ground.

Bruno Fernandes began the recovery with a retaken penalty in the 58th minute. Roma goalkeeper Devis Vásquez had saved his first attempt, but Bryan Cristante had entered the penalty area early before clearing the rebound. Fernandes scored at the second attempt.

Bryan Mbeumo then hit both posts with one shot as United pressed for an equaliser. Cunha made it 2–2 in the 83rd minute after a defensive error, then struck the winner three minutes later from a pass by substitute Shea Lacey.

The Brazilian’s evening ended with a dismissal. He was booked for his celebrations after the winning goal and received a second yellow card for a challenge in stoppage time. United held on to complete the turnaround.

In Spain, PSG became the fastest team to score four goals in a Champions League match, reaching that mark inside 17 minutes at Estadio de la Cerámica. João Neves scored first in the ninth minute, followed by Désiré Doué, Senny Mayulu and Fabián Ruiz.

Ruiz added his second after the interval before 17-year-old defender David Boly completed the scoring on his Champions League debut. The substitute’s goal was also his first at senior level.

The result gave the reigning European champions four wins from their opening four league-phase matches, with 20 goals scored. PSG also extended their winning run in all competitions to 10 games, despite missing several senior players through injury.
