Jon Rahm won the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship on his tournament debut on Sunday, 8 November, finishing two shots ahead of Tyrrell Hatton at Yas Links. A closing five-under-par 67 took the Spaniard to 23 under and a record sixth Rolex Series title.
Rahm had shared the previous record of five Rolex Series wins with Hatton. His latest success was also his 11th DP World Tour title and his first victory since leaving LIV Golf.
The final round briefly brought four players together at 20 under. Rory McIlroy joined Rahm, Hatton and Francesco Laporta in contention after beginning with a birdie and an eagle and adding further birdies early on the back nine.
Rahm and Laporta moved ahead again with birdies at the 11th, but the contest changed at the next hole. Rahm made another birdie while Laporta dropped a shot, creating a two-shot swing. The Italian then triple-bogeyed the par-three 13th to fall out of the leading battle.
Rahm strengthened his position with a close-range birdie at the 15th. Hatton matched it to remain two behind, but three closing pars were enough for Rahm to protect his advantage and secure the title.
Hatton’s final-round 68 left him second on 21 under, with McIlroy third at 19 under and Laporta fourth on 17 under. McIlroy moved up to second in the Race to Dubai standings, behind Eugenio Chacarra.
The season concludes at next week’s DP World Tour Championship, where the top 50 available players in the rankings are eligible to compete. Rahm’s win keeps him in the season-long title race, while Hatton also secured his place in the final event.
