Como equalled the biggest winning margin in Champions League history with a 9–1 victory at Lens on Wednesday, while Liverpool twice surrendered the lead before losing 3–2 at Fenerbahçe.

The Italian side’s eight-goal margin matched Liverpool’s 8–0 win over Beşiktaş in 2007 and Real Madrid’s 8–0 defeat of Malmö in 2015. Como also became only the second club to score nine goals in a match in the modern competition, following Bayern Munich’s 9–2 win against Dinamo Zagreb in 2024.

Anastasios Douvikas scored a hat-trick for Cesc Fàbregas’s team at Stade Bollaert-Delelis. The striker struck twice before half-time, with Nico Paz adding another to put the visitors 3–0 ahead at the interval.

Como accelerated after the break. Lucas Da Cunha and Marc-Oliver Kempf scored before Douvikas completed his treble, while substitute Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and Matteo Papaccioli also found the net. Ruben Aguilar’s volley provided Lens with their only goal.

The result continued Como’s remarkable first Champions League campaign. They have won three of their four league-phase games, scoring 19 goals and collecting nine points. Earlier home victories over RB Leipzig and Manchester United had both finished 4–1.

Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the competition ended in Istanbul. Trey Nyoni opened the scoring in the 25th minute, but Mason Greenwood’s deflected free-kick brought Fenerbahçe level four minutes later.

Substitute Alexander Isak restored Liverpool’s advantage with a header in the 69th minute. Again, the lead lasted only four minutes: Archie Brown equalised before Vedat Muriqi headed the winning goal in the 79th.

Andoni Iraola’s side were unable to recover from that final turnaround. The defeat was their first in this season’s Champions League after three consecutive wins, while Fenerbahçe secured their first victory of the league phase.
