iSport UK sports news

Arafat Minhas scored 59 from 58 balls and took six wickets for 40 as Pakistan beat England by 87 runs in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, turning their second match of the one-day international tri-series into a commanding victory.

Pakistan recovered from 133 for five to finish on 302 for nine from their 50 overs. Hasan Nawaz led the batting with 79 from 74 balls, including four sixes, and shared a sixth-wicket partnership of 78 with Minhas.

Minhas struck nine fours during his maiden ODI half-century and added 72 with Faheem Ashraf for the seventh wicket. Ashraf contributed 39 from 26 balls, helping Pakistan add 91 in the final ten overs after England had threatened to dismiss them cheaply.

The chase initially favoured England. Ben Duckett and Tom Banton put on 91 for the opening wicket, with Duckett making 45 and Banton 57. But England were eventually dismissed for 215 in 38.4 overs, losing their final seven wickets for 50 runs.

Left-arm spinner Minhas removed Banton and bowled captain Harry Brook for five before working through the lower order. Naseem Shah dismissed Joe Root for 33, while Haris Rauf removed Sam Curran for 27 as the chase unravelled.

Minhas also completed the run-out of Gus Atkinson that ended the match, adding the final dismissal to his six-wicket haul.

The result gives Pakistan two wins from two games after their opening victory over Sri Lanka. England face Sri Lanka at the same ground on Thursday, 22 October. Each side plays the others twice before the top two meet in the Lahore final on 31 October.
