Tottenham claim first league win as Kulusevski returns after 526 days

iSport UK sports news

Tottenham ended their wait for a Premier League victory by beating Coventry City 3–1 at home on Monday 19 October. James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies scored for Roberto De Zerbi’s side on an evening that also brought Dejan Kulusevski’s first competitive appearance in 526 days.

The result lifted Spurs from the bottom of the table to 16th after six league games without a win. They now have six points, drawing level with Coventry and moving above their opponents on goal difference.

Maddison marked his first competitive start for Tottenham since May 2025 with the opening goal in the 14th minute against his former club. Mohammed Kudus created the chance down the right, and Maddison curled a first-time shot from outside the penalty area beyond Carl Rushworth into the top corner.

Coventry threatened before the interval, with Micky van de Ven recovering to block Brandon Thomas-Asante’s effort and preserve Tottenham’s 1–0 half-time lead. Jack Rudoni then equalised early in the second half, scoring at the second attempt after his initial effort struck a team-mate.

Marmoush restored the home side’s advantage with his first goal for the club on his seventh appearance, beating Rushworth with a right-footed strike from the edge of the area. Kulusevski later replaced Kudus to a warm reception, ending a 17-month absence with a knee injury as Tottenham sought to protect their narrow lead.

Davies finally settled the contest in the sixth minute of added time. Dominic Solanke laid the ball into the defender’s path, and his low left-footed shot beat Rushworth.
