Sarina Wiegman has signed a two-year contract extension to remain England Women’s head coach until the end of Euro 2029. The agreement, announced on Monday 19 October, extends a deal that had been due to finish after the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

The decision gives Wiegman the opportunity to pursue a third successive European title with the Lionesses, following their victories in 2022 and 2025. Her first England match was in 2021, and the new contract could take her tenure to eight years by the next European Championship.

The immediate task is securing a place at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. England have not yet qualified and must overcome Ukraine in a two-legged final play-off concluding in December. The winners will advance to the finals, where England would seek to improve on their runner-up finish in 2023.

Wiegman arrived in England after winning Euro 2017 with the Netherlands. She has now guided her national teams to five consecutive major tournament finals. Her previous England contract extension was agreed in January 2024, before qualification for the successful Euro 2025 campaign began.

The latest agreement also spans the 2027 Nations League, which offers a route towards qualification for a Team GB squad at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Euro 2029 will be staged in Germany.

Wiegman will continue working with assistants Janneke Bijl and Arvid Smit and goalkeeping coach Darren Ward. In the announcement, she identified the World Cup as her immediate priority while also backing continued work to develop young players and coaches across the English game.
