Daiki Hashimoto won his fourth consecutive men's world all-around gymnastics title in Rotterdam on Thursday, while Great Britain's Joe Fraser secured bronze in a closely fought contest for the medals.

Japan's Hashimoto finished with 85.998 points across the six apparatus, 1.799 ahead of China's Yang Haonan on 84.199. Fraser's total of 83.531 was enough to keep Daniel Marinov, competing as World Gymnastics 2, off the podium by 0.234 points.

The eventual winning margin concealed the pressure on Hashimoto before the final rotation. He had accumulated 71.232 points through five apparatus, with Arsenii Dukhno just 0.101 behind and still in contention for gold.

Dukhno's challenge ended when he fell on a release move on high bar. His score of 11.566 left him seventh overall on 82.697. Hashimoto completed his own high bar routine for 14.766, turning a narrow advantage into a clear victory.

Fraser's strongest score came on parallel bars, where he earned 14.566, alongside 14.033 on pommel horse. He finished his competition on floor exercise with 13.266, including an out-of-bounds deduction, but retained enough of a cushion to take third place.

Fellow Briton Jake Jarman finished sixth with 82.865. His 14.900 on vault was the highest score on that apparatus in the all-around final, although it could not lift him into the medals.

Colombia's Angel Barajas took fifth on 83.232. Japan's reigning Olympic all-around champion Shinnosuke Oka finished eighth with 82.165 after a fall on vault, placing ahead of American Frederick Richard on a tie-break.

Hashimoto now has four successive world all-around golds. His compatriot Kohei Uchimura remains the men's record holder, having won six consecutive titles between 2009 and 2015.
