Paz leads Como to 4–1 Champions League win over Manchester United
Como defeated Manchester United 4–1 in the Champions League on Wednesday, with Nico Paz scoring twice and setting up another goal. Cesc Fàbregas’ side moved to six points from three league-phase matches after a commanding home performance.
Paz put the Italian club ahead in the second minute, curling a left-footed shot beyond Senne Lammens. United reached half-time only one goal behind, but Como increased their advantage four minutes after the restart when Paz released Tasos Douvikas to finish.
The Argentina international struck again in the 57th minute after winning possession and advancing into the penalty area. Centre-back Jacobo Ramón added the fourth with a header from Kaiki’s cross in the 76th minute, completing Como’s scoring at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
Joshua Zirkzee replied in stoppage time, converting after controlling Amad’s delivery, but United had already conceded four unanswered goals. Their late response could do little to change a contest in which the home side had repeatedly broken through.
The defeat extended United’s winless run under Michael Carrick to seven matches across all competitions, comprising three draws and four losses. It is their longest such sequence since an eight-match spell between November and December 2015.
Matthijs de Ligt returned to United’s starting line-up after 325 days out with back problems. Carrick also introduced Carlos Baleba and Amad at the interval, yet Como scored three more times before Zirkzee’s consolation.
United have three points from their opening three Champions League fixtures. They return to Premier League action against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, while Como’s next match is at home to Sassuolo on Saturday.
